Great progress for validating girls emotions - but virtually at the expense of the male characters, when the opportunity was presented to give them some consideration. I'd love a sequel to give boy's emotions some time in the spotlight - since they are among the most misunderstood and quickly dismissed psychological phenomena in our culture. The teenage boy's: short-circuited by seeing a girl (probably a post puberty-button-pressed mind?… but still - was the joke a necessary evil done strictly for laughs - or were boys in general to be considered two dimensional?)Īnd the bus driver's: all the figures are modeled on anger, and anger is in charge The mom practically begs her daughter to baby the father. When time, change, and circumstance aren't acting as negative catalysts - the male mind is. The dad's: dominated by anger - with a militaristic power structure - his lack of self control sparks the protagonists breakdown. There are 3, unless I'm forgetting someone. While it made for a funny moment - the more I thought about the film afterwards, and how wonderful it is to have it for my girls to see, the more I realized that the male minds in the film were given a lot less thought, consideration, and reasonable representation.
